Hey Speech-Heads:
Check out this brand new Creepy Talking Robot (CTR): Ibn Sina, the world’s first Arabic conversational humanoid robot.
This CTR comes at you via Acapela Group and the Interactive Robots and Media Lab at United Arab Emirates University.
Check out this link for more information. And check out this and this for samples of the speech technology behind Ibn Sina: Acapela’s brand new bilingual voice Nizar.
As my Speech Brother Eric B. would say: “Dog will hunt.”

Hey Speech-Heads:
If you’re anything like my Speech Brother Eric B., you (a) love cold chocolate milk and (b) need a little help remembering all the comings and goings and activities and events in the World of Speech.
So here it is: Your October Speech Reminder Post:
- Submissions for the Call for Speakers at SpeechTEK Europe 2010 are due Friday, October 23rd. GET ON IT.
- Don’t forget to sign up for our next Speechy Webinar: Personalized Speech: The End of One Size Fits All. It all goes down this Thursday, October 22nd at 1pm ET and features Dan Hong, lead analyst at Ovum, Jay Emmons, VP of Customer Operations at Voxify, and our own David Myron, the editorial director of Speech Technology.

Hey Speech-Heads:
It’s like my Speech Brother Eric B. always says: “Anyone can make an IVR, but only a Speech Mastermind can give the people what they want: a Creepy Talking Robot.”
Check out this link–sent to Speech Tech Blog by a Reader/Creepy Talking Robot (CTR) Fan.
Unfortunately, we have yet to ascertain what is going on this photo and what this CTR is all about. I have to admit, I like it’s sense of style and haircut. Additionally, the Telegraph seems to understand the malicious potential of CTRs as evidenced by its headline: Humanoid Robots Prepare To Take Over.
But fear not, Speech Tech Blog will get to the bottom of this. I currently have the interns chained to their desks, researching this CTR and making me coffee.
Hey Speech-Heads:
As we all know, my Speech Brother Eric B. is no longer with us. And for most of, the loss is unbearable.
And while he may return to the Speech Fold, I still get hundreds of emails every day about Eric B: messages asking about his health, his whereabouts, his marital status, his job. It seems that the entire Speech World is just looking for a little more Eric B.
Well, look no further.
Eric B. is–for a limited time–blogging for CRM, our illustrious Sister Publication. I’m not sure what he’s blogging about–it has something to do with JetBlue–but check out his musings at THIS LOCATION.
Hey Speech-Heads:

Unless you’re living under a rock, you already know about SpeechTEK Europe 2010.
That’s right: the best and brightest in the World of Speech Technology will be gethering at the Copthorne Tara Hotel in London from May 26-27 for the Euro Version of our very own SpeechTEK.
But like my Speech Brother Eric B. always says: “What would SpeechTEK be without all the great speakers? A Hollow Speech Shell, that’s what.”
So, the Call For Speakers for SpeechTEK Europe 2010 has begun! The submission deadline is October 23rd so get to work Speech-Heads.
And, we’ll see you in London!
