Google Releases Speech API For Chrome Beta

Google has unveiled a new version of Chrome Beta that features a JavaScript API that allows developers to integrate speech recognition into their Web apps. With the API,  users will be able to perform tasks such as dictating documents or control game characters with a browser by using voice.

“We’re excited about all the innovative ways in which developers can now speech-enable the Web,” says Glen Shires, software engineer and speech specialist at Google.

Chrome Web Speech API uses automatic speech recognition with sophisticated language models for over 60 languages and dialects.
