CereProc Recreates KFC’s Col. Sanders

KFC’s iconic Col. Sanders is now cheerfully greeting customers and taking orders at KFC drive-thrus. KFC earlier this month released the robot ‘chicken expert’ dubbed H.A.R.L.A.N.D. (Human-Assisted Robotic Linguistic Animatronic Networked Device) to celebrate National Fried Chicken Day on July 6th.

KFC's Robot Colonel Sanders Will Take Your Drive-Thru Orders

H.A.R.L.A.N.D. was created by advertising firm Widen+Kennedy and features the unmistakable voice of Col. Sanders recreated using text-to-speech technology from U.K. speech technology firm CereProc.

According to a press release from the company, HARLAND (which is also the first name of the late KFC brand icon)  is a “state-of-the-art voice modulator system that gives drive-thru customers the experience they’ve always dreamed of: ordering from an animatronic Col. Sanders head that speaks in the voice of Col. Sanders.”

CereProc, in a statement on its website, said its whole team “loved working on this project and we couldn’t be happier with how the voice turned out!”

Listen to Col. Sanders wish everybody a happy National Fried Chicken Day in this video message here.
